[edit] Biographical Information

Bruce Von Hoff was born in Oakland, CA but went to high school in Batavia, IL and college in Illinois at Northern Illinois University. He came to the majors in 1965 and 1967 with the Houston Astros.

Bruce's brother Byron Von Hoff was also a big star in high school and college, and was signed by the New York Mets. Byron roomed with Jerry Koosman in the minors and had some success as a pitcher but an injury ended his career.

Bruce was signed a couple years before his brother, and briefly came to the majors in September 1965 after being in the minors during 1964-65. He spent 1966 and some of 1967 in the minors, but came up for 50 1/3 more innings with the Astros in 1967.

He was the same age as teammates Joe Morgan and Rusty Staub.

He pitched a no-hitter while with Durham.

Bruce injured himself while dancing, tearing cartilage in his knee.

After baseball he worked for a couple trucking companies, was a bus driver, and had other jobs in Florida.
