Bruce Ruffin was signed as a 2nd round pick in the 1985 amateur draft by the Philadelphia Phillies and scout Doug Gassaway. Ruffin's son, Chance Ruffin, was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the supplemental 1st round of the 2010 amateur draft and made his major league debut the next year.
Ruffin gave up Tony Gwynn's 2,000th hit.
