 Biographical Information
Bruce Kimm was a capable receiver whose main claim to fame during a brief Major League career was being used as Mark "The Bird" Fidrych's designated catcher. Hit his only career home run on August 17, 1976 against Frank Tanana of the California Angels. The homer gave the Tigers the lead and they went on to win the game. Fidrych was the winning pitcher. Kimm played for both the Chicago Cubs (in 1979) and the Chicago White Sox (in 1980).
After his playing days, Kimm was a coach for the Cincinnati Reds from 1984 to 1988, the 1989 Pittsburgh Pirates, the San Diego Padres in 1991 and 1992, the Florida Marlins in 1997 and 1998 Marlins, the 1999 Colorado Rockies as bench coach, and the 2003 Chicago White Sox. He was also the Cubs' manager during the second half of the 1992 season.
