The Brooklyn Cyclones began play in the New York-Penn League in 2001. They have been an affiliate of the New York Mets for their entire existence. In their inaugural season, the Cyclones were co-champions of the league. The team plays their home games in KeySpan Park in Brooklyn, NY.

In January 2009, the Cyclones announced that they will play one game (June 23, 2009) as the "Baracklyn Cyclones" in honor of Barack Obama.[1][2]
