[edit] Biographical Information
First baseman Broderick Perkins played seven seasons in the major leagues, mostly with the San Diego Padres, usually posting a batting average over .270. The only season he had over 300 at-bats was in 1982, although he was also a regular in 1981, a strike-shortened season.
Because he didn't show much power as a first baseman, the most similar players (according to the similarity scores method) are a couple of dead-ball era players, Scoops Carey and Butch Schmidt.
Will be inducted into the Diablo Valley College (Pleasant Hill, CA) Hall of Fame on 28 Feb 2008. After being named team MVP in 1974, Perkins transfered to Saint Mary's College. Drafted by San Diego in 1976 (see article in Contra Costa Times pg. B7, 16 Feb 2008).
He is one of six players with the last name Perkins, but the only major leaguer (through 2007) with the first name Broderick.
