One of the charter members of the Canadian-American League, the Brockville Pirates were third the first year at 43-36-2 under Jess Spring and then beat the Ottawa Senators in the Shaughnessy Playoffs before losing in the finals to Perth, 3 games to 0. The star hitter and pitcher was the same man, Frank Perkowski (9-6, 3.81; .323 with 12 homers and 51 RBI, leading the team in average, homers and ERA). The next year, they went 30-69-1 under player/manager John Grilli, who hit a league-high .409, but did not play enough to qualify for the batting title, which instead went to Maurice Van Robays. Due to financial trouble and tepid fan support, the team was forfeited to the league on February 20, 1938.
