Brian Rogers was drafted in the 11th round of the 2003 amateur draft by the Detroit Tigers despite coming off of a 3-8, 6.12 year in college. Rogers had won the "Outstanding Pitcher Award" at Cape Cod prior to his junior season at Georgia Southern University. He was 3-2 with a 3.34 ERA that year for the Oneonta Tigers, striking out 66 in 56 2/3 IP. In 2004, Brian had a 6-8, 4.55 line for the West Michigan Whitecaps. Rogers became a relief pitcher with the 2005 Lakeland Tigers and had a fine time, going 4-1 with two saves and a 2.06 ERA in 52 outings, allowing a .212 average.
Rogers was 3-2 with one save and a 2.39 ERA for the 2006 Erie Sea Wolves, striking out 69 in 64 innings and gave up a .210 batting average. Brian represented Erie at the Eastern League AA All-Star Game and pitched one scoreless inning. At the trading deadline, he was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for Sean Casey. Brian was assigned to the Altoona Curve and pitched four scoreless frames. He was promoted to the Indianapolis Indians and went 1-1 with one save and a 1.08 ERA in seven games. The Bucs then called him up along with Jonah Bayliss and Marty McLeary when Mike Gonzalez and Tom Gorzelanny were put on the disabled list and Britt Reames was sent down. He posted an 8.31 ERA in 10 appearances in the majors.
Rogers began 2007 back with Indianapolis before a stint on the Pirates big league roster in May. Overall, he was 2-1 with a 3.05 ERA in 48 games in the minors and notched a 13.50 ERA in 3 major league appearances.
Father, Alan Rogers, played football for Georgia Tech (1977-80).
