 Biographical information
Pitcher Brian Almeida played in the Atlanta Braves system from 2000 to 2003. He spent three years at the rookie level and another at the Single-A level.
Drafted by the Braves in the seventh round of the 2000 amateur draft (right after Mitch Jones and Tim Olson) and signing for a bonus of $175,000, Almeida began his professional career with the GCL Braves that year. In 11 games (nine starts), he went 2-6 with a 3.30 ERA. In 43 2/3 innings, he allowed 40 hits and 20 walks while striking out 35 batters. He tied for the Gulf Coast League lead in losses (with Ryan Ewin, Darwin Marrero, Scott Rice and Danny Sauer) and he posted the worst winning percentage among qualifying pitchers.
In 2001, Almeida went 0-1 with a 2.25 ERA in two relief appearances for the GCL Braves. With the Danville Braves in 2002, the right-hander went 0-1 with a 3.91 ERA in 13 games (one start). He wrapped up his career in 2003, going 0-0 with a 0.93 ERA in six relief appearances for the Rome Braves.
Overall, Almeida went 2-8 with a 3.14 ERA in 32 games (10 starts). In 80 1/3 innings, he allowed 68 hits and 46 walks, while striking out 61 batters.
