[edit] Biographical Information

Outfielder Brian Barton was drafted in the 38th round of the 2000 amateur draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers but opted for college, attending the University of Miami. As a junior in 2004, he hit .371 and was named to the College World Series All-Tournament team.

Barton was undrafted out of college, due largely to his academic background. He was an aerospace engineering major who had interned at Boeing. Barton was signed by scout Jorge Diaz for the Cleveland Indians as a free agent for $100,000 and another $100,000 in college funds. After three years in the Indians organization, he was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2007 Rule V draft. He made his big league debut as a pinch hitter on April 1, 2008 and got his first major league hit.
