Brennan Nijhof In August 2007 Brennan got the MVP-award at the European Baseball Academy tournament held at Amsterdam. In the same year he was also selected for the Dutch National Baseball Team AA (Cadets) and in 2009 for the National AAA-team (juniors U18). He was 1 for 12 with a double and a walk in the IBAF 2009 World Youth Championship at Chinese Taipei. [1] In 2010, he was a Rookie player for Almere '90 but transferred later in the season to the Dutch Major League team Almere Magpies, when he just turned 17 years. At the end of the regular Dutch Major League season, Brennan ended up as one of the best 20 hitters of this professional league in his six-game stint, BA.364, OB%.417, Fld.% 1.000 [2]

In 2008 he helped the Dutch become the European Champion at the CEB European Championship Cadets, held at Rome, Italy. He went 6 for 9 with 4 runs, 2 RBI and OBP.700. As a player of the Dutch Baseball Academy Scimitars, he ended up in the 2009 Elite League competition at the second place, BA .463, OBP. 483 with 26 runs and 33 RBI's. During the 2010 IBAF World Baseball Junior Championship at Thunder Bay, Canada, Brennan - well known as a cold blooded deep-in-the-count hitter- played a major role in beating Cuba 9 - 8. With all bases loaded, he earned an eight-pitch walk after being in an early 0 - 2 hole to score the upset of the World Junior Baseball Championship. [3] [4] For the event, he went 2 for 9 with two runs, 3 RBI, four walks and two times hit by pitch. His .533 OBP led the Netherlands squad. [5]

In 2011, Brennan transferred from the Almere Magpies to the Dutch Major League club UVV. At the 2011 CEB European Junior Championship held at Gijòn, Spain, he went for 3 out 4 with two walks and two RBI during the final game against the Czech Republic. The Dutch team won the event, during which Nijhof was 4 for 14 with six walks, three runs and three RBI. [6] The MLB invited Brennan as one of 55 young players from all over Europe to the MLB European Academy in Italy.
