In his junior year of high school, Brandon Villalobos was picked for the all-state and all-league teams, named the Baseline League MVP and named the San Gabriel Valley Pitcher of the Year. As a senior he was again named to the all-league team.

At Long Beach State University in 2004, Brandon went 1-2 with a 5.70 earned run average. He missed 2005 due to injury.

In 2006, Villalobos was at Chaffey College where he was named team captain. While there, his team won the conference title and Brandon was named to the All-Foothill League Team. He finished the year with a record of 3-1 and a 2.87 ERA which earned him a place in the 2006 draft. He was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 23rd round of the 2006 Amateur Draft (705th overall). He decided to attend San Diego State University instead of signing.

In the summer of 2006, Villalobos played for the Southern California Fire in the Southern California Collegiate Baseball Association. He posted a 2.25 ERA and a record of 2-0.

He transferred to San Diego State where he majored in social science. Brandon was injured and could not play in 2007. In 2008, he only saw action in four innings over six games. He did poorly and completed the season 0-2 with a 24.75 ERA.

Brandon died in an off-road dune buggy accident over Easter weekend in 2009. At the time of his death, Villalobos was signed to play for the Gateway Grizzlies of the Frontier League and due to report in May. Brandon was the son of Brett and Leah Villalobos.
