The Bradenton Marauders were created in 2010. The club moved to the city after the Pittsburgh Pirates bought the Sarasota Reds from Cincinnati. The Reds were selling the team as they planned to move their spring training base from Sarasota to Arizona. They replaced the Lynchburg Hillcats as Pittsburgh's A-Advanced farm club.
