Plagued with horrible control throughout his entire career, Pennington averaged 10.59 walks per nine innings in the majors. He also averaged one wild pitch every 6.9 innings. He still managed to average more than one strikeout per inning, and less than one hit per inning. Had he been able to master his control, he may have gone on to be a great pitcher.
