 Biographical Information
Brad Goldberg has pitched as high as AAA.
Goldberg was 9-2 with a 1.64 ERA and 102 K as a high school senior. As a freshman at Coastal Carolina, he was 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA and 17 K in 14 2/3 IP. Transferring top Ohio State, he did not play in 2011-2012. In 2013, he was 6-1 with a 2.99 ERA. The Chicago White Sox took him in the 10th round of the 2013 amateur draft. Baseball America named him and Tyler Danish as having the best fastballs in the White Sox draft class. The scout was Phil Gulley.
He split his first pro summer between the Great Falls Voyagers (0 R in 4 IP, 7 K), Kannapolis Intimidators (3-0, 2 Sv, 1.42 in 12 G) and Winston-Salem Dash (Sv, 3.18 in 5 2/3 IP). He went 4-4 with two saves and a 5.23 ERA for the 2014 Dash. With the team again in 2015, he was 1-4 with 11 saves and a 2.97 ERA in 39 games and topping a strikeout per inning. He tied Estarlin Cordero for 4th in the Carolina League in saves. In 2016, he pitched for the Birmingham Barons (3 R, 1 ER in 6 IP) and the Charlotte Knights (3-5, 10 Sv, 2.84 in 43 G). He led the White Sox chain with 47 games pitched.
As the closer for the Israeli national team in the 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, he saved Craig Breslow's 5-2 win over Great Britain and Corey Baker's 1-0 win over Brazil (defending its spot from the 2013 World Baseball Classic). He allowed one hit (to Todd Isaacs) and one walk (to Jordan Serena) in two shutout innings, fanning three. He tied Ryan Searle for the save lead in the WBC Qualifiers as Israel won a spot in the 2017 World Baseball Classic.
