[edit] Team History
The Bowie Baysox began play in 1993 when the Hagerstown Suns relocated from Hagerstown, MD. They have been an affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles for their entire existence. For their first season, the club played in Baltimore's Memorial Stadium, former home of the Orioles. Due to construction delays on the team's new ballpark, in 1994, the Baysox split their first 31 home games between several other ballparks. By July, their new park was completed, and they moved into Prince George's Stadium.
In 2008, the Baysix had a remarkable season in fielding the Minor League Player of the Year in catcher Matt Wieters, the Eastern League MVP in center fielder Luis Montanez, who won the league's Triple Crown and the Pitcher of the Year in Brad Bergesen. The team finished second overall in the standings, two games behind the Trenton Thunder but lost in the first round of the playoffs.
