Ranking 6th all-time with 398 career minor league homeruns, "Bobby" Prescott was one of the greatest minor league stars in the history of baseball.
Originally signed with the Pirates, Prescott's baseball career began in 1952 at Hutchinson in the Western Association where he hit .350 including 47 extra base hits. He followed with two productive years with Denver is the Western League ... batting .316 and .311 ... and scoring 137 runs in 146 games in 1954. Prescott moved up to Hollywood in the Pacific Coast League in 1955 (143g, 9 Hr, 8 SB., .276).
In 1956, Bobby had moved to the Giants organization. He had productive years in Phoenix (PCL) hitting .319 and .309 in 1958 and 1959, respectively. He also hit with power ... 24 homers in '58 and 21 homers in '59.
In 1961, Bobby got a mid-season shot at the majors. Prescott played with the Kansas City Athletics. He appeared in 10 games but only batted .083 (1 for 12). He was sent back down to the Hawaii Islanders where he finished with 32 homeruns, 100 RBIs, and a .301 batting average in just 124 games.
Traded to the Dodgers farm system in 1962, Prescott's farm system career ended.
From 1963 through 1970, Prescott played in the Mexican League. During the 1964-1967 period, Bobby hit 37, 39, 41 and 32 homers, batting in over 100 runs in each of those seasons. During this period, Prescott led his league in homers in 1965 and 1966 and in RBIs in 1966 (122). In 1968, his homerun totol dropped off to 26 but he led the Mexican league in RBIs with 84.
Prescott ended his baseball years with minor league career numbers of 2,268 games played, 7,482 at bats, 2195 hits, 395 doubles, 57 triples, 398 homers, 1373 runs scored, 1531 RBIs and a .293 batting average.
