[edit] Biographical Information
Although his major league career was extremely brief (a pair of games with the 1892 Pittsburgh Pirates, Bobby Cargo was a well-known minor-league ballplayer, who made Atlanta his professional home for several seasons. He was especially known as a slick-fielding third-baseman.
Cargo died of pneumonia in the spring of 1904, shortly after the start of the season. He had come down with a cold, which he did not regard as serious, and tried to play his way through the ailment. Complications set in, however, and Cargo succumbed to the illness.
Cargo had several brothers who also played pro baseball, including shortstop Chick Cargo.
