[edit] Biographical Information
Left-hander Bobby Burke was acquired by the Washington Senators from the Little Rock Travelers of the Southern Association on October 26, 1926 in the Rule V Draft. The nineteen year old pitcher had built an 11-8 record with the Little Rock Club during the 1926 season.
Many pitchers have served in the major leagues without being able to turn in a no-hit game. Bobby Burke with the Washington Senators is one of the rare hurlers who did accomplish a no-hitter. On August 8, 1931 Burke turned the trick on the Boston Red Sox, shutting them down, 5-0.
Burke would spend ten seasons in the majors, 1927-37, and close out with a 38-46 record with a 4.28 ERA. He spent nine of his seasons with the Senators, closing out with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1937.
