The brother of Ed Weiland, pitcher Bob Weiland threw a shutout in his first major league game with the Chicago White Sox and got a hit as well. After stints with the White Sox, Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Indians, and St. Louis Browns, he moved on to the St. Louis Cardinals, becoming a vital part of their rotation from 1937 to 1939.
Following his baseball career, Weiland became an auto parts salesman. He died in 1988 at age 82.
