Pitcher Bob McCrory was drafted by the Houston Astros in the 11th round of the 2000 amateur draft, but opted to go to college. He was then selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the fourth round of the 2003 amateur draft. He signed with the O's that year but did not pitch after spraining his elbow. He made his pro debut the next summer with the Delmarva Shorebirds and posted a 7.59 ERA in 8 games there. He spent most of the rest of the season with the Bluefield Orioles and went 4-3 with a 1.92 ERA in 11 starts there. He also made one appearance with the Aberdeen Ironbirds. He was back with the Ironbirds in 2005 and was 2-1 with a 3.28 ERA in 5 starts before his season was ended by an elbow injury. He was moved to the bullpen in 2006 and saved 2 games in 20 appearances for the Ironbirds that year.
McCrory began 2007 with the Frederick Keys and notched 14 saves there before being promoted to the Bowie Baysox in June and saving 13 games there. He started the next year with the Norfolk Tides and saved 4 there before being promoted to the Orioles in late April.
