[edit] Biographical Information
Bob Casey was one of the earliest players from Canada to play in the major leagues. He played 9 games in a week in July 1882 for the Detroit Wolverines at the age of 23. He hit .231 and slugged a notable .410. Detroit as a team that year hit .230 and slugged .314. Defensively, though, Bob made 12 errors in his 9 games, and that may have made the difference.
Detroit tried 6 players at third base that year. Art Whitney had been used in 1881, but had hit poorly, and in 1882 he also hit poorly and lost his job. Joe Farrell eventually won the third base job with the Wolverines, keeping it through 1884.
