[edit] Biographical Information
The St. Louis Cardinals signed 18-year-old Bob Blaylock as an amateur free agent in 1953 and promptly shipped him to the class D Ardmore Cardinals, where he went 9-1 with a 3.49 ERA his first year out. The hard-throwing right-hander then averaged a strikeout per inning with 155 Ks at the Fresno Cardinals class C team in 1954 along with a 9-8 record and a 3.89 ERA.
Blaylock would be in the minors until 1956 where he went 9-4 with a 1.67 ERA with the Rochester Red Wings, before coming up to St. Louis where he struggled with a 1-6 record in 14 games. After leading the American Association with 193 strikeouts for the Omaha Cardinals in 1958, he had a second and last trial with St. Louis, losing in his only decision.
Bob spent the next four seasons with the in the AA Texas League with the Tulsa Oilers where he went 32-20 with a 4.00 ERA. 1962 was his tenth and final year in pro ball and he turned to other work in 1963.
Although Blaylock's major league numbers did not show too good (he was 1-7 appearing in 17 games, pitching 50 innings for a 5.94 ERA), his minor league stats show he won 76 and lost 75, appearing in 302 games, pitching 1344 innings, giving up 1,221 base hits and 661 base on balls with a 3.72 ERA.
As of this writing (November 2008) Blaylock is a motel manager and works and resides in Tulsa, OK.
