Biographical Information
A mainstay in the Chicago Cubs rotation for much of the 1950s, Bob Rush won 127 games in his career and was a two-time All-Star.
Rush began his pro career in 1947 and reached the majors with the Cubs in 1948. Despite posting a respectable 3.71 ERA in 1950, he led the National League with 20 losses that season. He had his best year in 1952, winning 17 games and recording a 2.70 ERA while also earning the win in a rain-shortened All-Star Game. He was successful at the plate that summer as well, hitting .292 and driving in 15 runs.
After going 6-16 with a 4.38 ERA in 1957, Rush was dealt to the Milwaukee Braves. Joining a rotation anchored by Warren Spahn and Lew Burdette, he won 10 games as his team captured the NL pennant in 1958. He started Game Three of the World Series and took the loss, and the Braves fell to the New York Yankees.
Rush remained with Milwaukee until 1960, when his contract was sold to the Chicago White Sox. He ended his career with the Sox at the end of that season.
