Bob Babcock pitched three years with the Texas Rangers (1979-1981), getting into 39 games. He was particularly effective in 1981 when his ERA was 2.20 in 16 appearances.

He was the same age as Jon Matlack and a year younger than Mickey Rivers.

Babcock had a lengthy minor league career, beginning in 1968. He was primarily a starter through 1973 but thereafter a reliever. He spent parts of six seasons in the International League and five in the Pacific Coast League, finishing up in 1984.

Bob Babcock's nickname was 'Babby.' He entered law enforcement after baseball and lives in West Sunbury, PA. After he retires (about 2 years) he hopes to come back to the sport he loved as a scout, etc.

Through 2008, he has been the only major leaguer with the last name Babcock.
