[edit] Biographical Information

Not to be confused with the Hall of Famer of the same name, outfielder Billy Williams made his major league debut at age 36 with the 1969 Seattle Pilots. He was in his 18th year of professional baseball and had spent nine years in the Pacific Coast League when he was called up. He played in four games for the Pilots and never got a hit. He is briefly mentioned in Jim Bouton's book, Ball Four.

While with Salt Lake City in 1962, he hit .302 with 8 triples and 16 steals in 21 attempts. His teammates there included Walt Bond and Sam McDowell.

Williams retired after being dropped by the Pilots and worked at a clothing store in Berkeley, California which he co-owned. He returned to baseball in the 1980s as a minor league manager of the GCL Indians in 1988 and was a Cleveland Indians coach in 1990 and 1991. He has been a coach for the Sioux City Explorers formerly of the Northern League, now of the newly reconstituted American Association, in 2005 to the present (spring, 2008), in his early and middle seventies.
