[edit] Biographical Information
Bill Wansley played for the New York Mutuals (1862-1865). In 1865, three New York Mutuals players (Wansley, Tom Devyr, and Ed Duffy) were paid $100 by gambler Kane McLoughlin to throw a game against the Brooklyn Eckfords. Wansley, the catcher, was charged with six passed balls and the Mutuals lost 23-11. All three were banned from baseball. Both Wansley and Duffy were both reinstated in 1870, while Devyr was reinstated seven years earlier.
