[edit] Biographical Information
Cousin of Billy Southworth, Bill Southworth slugged .714 in his cup of coffee as a third baseman with the 1964 Milwaukee Braves.
Unfortunately for Bill, the regular third baseman for the team was Eddie Mathews.
He was still age 18 when he made his major league debut. He had been signed before the 1964 season and played 35 games in Yakima that year, along with 54 games at Greenville (where he hit .326). For most of 1965 he was in Yakima again, hitting 20 home runs with a .305 batting average.
As of 2004, he was the second-youngest major leaguer to hit a home run as a third baseman (Wayne Causey was younger).
