[edit] Biographical Information

Bill Phillips played a decade, mostly in the 1880s, mostly for the Cleveland Blues, and mostly as a first baseman.

An interesting comparison (according to similarity scores) to Bill Phillips is a much more recent player, Wes Parker. Both were good-fielding first basemen who hit around .265 lifetime but had one season where they placed in the top ten in the league in batting average. Both had lifetime Adjusted OPS scores around 110.

Bill was the first major leaguer born in Saint John, NB. The most recent (through 2006) is Matt Stairs, born over a hundred years later.

He is not to be confused with the later player and manager Bill Phillips.
