[edit] Biographical Information
Thomas Loughran was the first player to come to the major leagues out of Manhattan College. While in the majors, he played catcher as a backup to Buck Ewing.
The SABR biography of Jim Price says that Loughran (referred to as William Loughran) actually caught Mickey Welch while Ewing caught Ed Begley.
A SABR update in 2004 refers to him as William H. Loughran, says he went to Manhattan College as an undergrad and got a law degree from Columbia University. He practiced in New York City. His son, William H. Loughran, Jr., became the baseball coach at Manhattan College.
