 Biographical Information
Pitcher Bill Kirk was born and raised in southeastern Pennsylvania. As a teenager, he competed in the national soap box derby competition in 1949. After graduating in 1952 from J.P. McCaskey High School in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where he played baseball and soccer, he began his pro baseball career. He slowly moved through the minor league ranks and ended back in Lancaster in 1960 with the Lancaster Red Roses, for whom he threw a no-hitter in July.
Kirk reached the majors with the Kansas City Athletics late in the 1961 season. He appeared in just one big league contest, making a start against the Cleveland Indians on September 23rd. He pitched two scoreless innings before giving up a pair of two-run homers to Johnny Romano and Chuck Essegian in the 3rd before being pulled for a pinch hitter.
