Bill Holowaty set a record for most wins by a NCAA Division III coach in New England.
Holowaty grew up in Mohawk, NY. He played basketball at the University of Connecticut. He then moved to Eastern Connecticut State University as an assistant basketball coach, a role he held for six years. Holowaty moved up to become the Athletic Director, a job he held for 15 years, while also becoming a professor in the School of Education.
Holowaty has served as head baseball coach of Eastern Connecticut for over 40 years, leading his team to 2 NAIA College World Series (1973, 1975) and 12 Division III College World Series (1982, 1983, 1987, 1990, 1993, 1995, 1998, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007). ECSU won Division III titles in 1982, 1990, 1997 and 2002.
In 2002, he was inducted into the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame for winning over 1,000 games. By 2009, he was third all-time in wins in baseball in NCAA Division III. His sons Jared Holowaty and Jason Holowaty followed him into the baseball world. His daughter, Jennifer, followed him into the education world.
