Bill Hobbs served in the U.S. Army during World War I. He played for the Cincinnati Reds, 4 games in 1913 and 6 games in 1916 at second base, third base and shorstop. His baseball career was shortened when he was unconscious for 20 hours after being hit in the head by a pitched ball.
After his playing career, he operated Hobb's Distributing Company in Hamilton, OH. He was accidentally killed at age 51 when he was shot by his own gun while hunting rabbits. He went by the name of Lee to his wife and friends.
