Bill Herring pitched in the 1915 Federal League. Primarily a pitcher, he played a lot of outfield in the minors in 1920.
". . . Magee has also signed Bill Herring, the big right-handed twirler from Freeport . . . Herring was boosted highly to Manager McGraw, but the leader of the Giants figured that he did not have time to bother with youngsters, so let him out. Magee, on the other hand, is keen for youngsters, be they twirlers, infielders or outfielders.
