Poor Bill Hart pitched eight years in the major leagues without ever posting a winning record. His ERA's were often not terrible.

Not all of this teams finished under .500. The 1892 Brooklyn Grooms went 92-59 while he went 9-12, and the 1895 Pittsburgh Pirates went 71-61 while he went 14-17. But the other teams were under .500, sometimes far under.

Hart was not in the majors in 1890, and another Bill Hart, known as Billy Hart pitched that year. The two, although the same age, were not the same person.

Hart pitched in the minors from 1885 to 1910, through age 45. He posted a 251-253 record in the minors, and was 12-4 for the 1905 Columbus Senators who won 100 games.

Hart managed the Peoria Distillers in 1902.

He also umpired in the American Association (1904-1905) and Southern Association (1914, 1915-1916), and was a National League umpire in 1914-1915.
