[edit] Biographical Information
Bill Wynne was the first major leaguer out of Wake Forest University. He appeared in one game for the 1894 Washington Senators, pitching 8 innings.
Wynne had been at Wake Forest from 1891-1894 and also pitched for Charleston in 1894. Sporting Life of September 1, 1894 carried a notice of his signing by Washington manager Gus Schmelz, saying that Wynne was from Raleigh, NC. The publication called him "Will Wynne".
He is not to be confused with another player, William Wynne [1], also born in North Carolina 14 years after Bill Wynne. This William Wynne often was called "Billy". In addition, a player named Billy Wynne, similarly from North Carolina, appeared in the majors between 1967-1971.
