[edit] Biographical Information
"The St. Louis farm system, not so dried up as some said, had grown a skinny, 20-year-old shortstop named Bernie Creger, for whom the Chicago Cubs would give a half-interest in Wrigley Field. Yet Creger had little chance to break into the Cardinals' crack lineup: to do that he would have to beat Marty ("Mr. Shortstop") Marion out of his job. - from a Time Magazine article during spring training, 1947
Bernie Creger was only 20 during his single season in the majors with the 1947 Cardinals. A shortstop, he backed up Marty Marion.
Creger served with the United States Navy during World War II.
He played for Omaha in 1949 and 1950. He was with Columbus in 1951.
