Benny Culp, who was born and died in Philadelphia, PA, was a wartime catcher for the Philadelphia Phillies from 1942-44. Although he was past 30, he served in the Navy in 1944-45.
After his playing career ended, Culp was a Philadelphia Phillies coach in 1946 to 1947. He was also a longtime American Legion Baseball manager.
