Ben Grover was a baseball, football and wrestling performer in high school. He pitched three innings in junior college in 2006 then was 6-7 with a 5.29 ERA in 2007. Transferring to Oral Roberts, he appeared in one game as a junior then tossed two shutout innings his senior year.
Grover moved to the Netherlands to be with his girlfriend and continued his baseball career there. Signing with the L&D Amsterdam Pirates for 2010, he made the inaugural Hoofdklasse All-Star Game.
