Belve Bean pitched in the majors during the first part of the 1930's, and then was with the Minneapolis Millers from 1935-1940. Before his major league days, he was with the New Orleans Pelicans in 1929. In 1932, he was with the Toledo Mud Hens.
Belve's best major league year was 1934, when he was managed by Walter Johnson.
After his playing days he was sheriff of Comanche County, TX.
Bean wasn't a bad hitter for a pitcher, with a .264 major league batting average and a .243 minor league batting average. On May 29, 1929, he not only beat the Memphis Chicks 11-2, but also went 5-for-5 with the bat. Pelican Briefs
Bean was successful in his minor league career with at least 123 victories. He won 20 games in 1928 and 1932, and won at least 15 games during at least three other seasons.
