Belleville is located in southern Illinois, 20 miles east of St. Louis, MO. Scott Air Force Base, IL is located immediately east of the city.

The St. Louis Stars of the Negro American League played some games here, using it as an alternate home field when they were unable to use Sportsman's Park. On June 29, 1941, Gene Smith pitched a no-hitter in an interleague game against the New York Black Yankees, winning 6-1.
