Bart Volkerijk pitched 23 seasons in the Netherlands, setting a couple major records. He also spent 15 years on the Dutch national team, appearing in six Baseball World Cups/Amateur World Series and 8 European Championships (3 of which the Netherlands won).
Volkerijk made his Hoofdklasse debut with ADO in 1974. He made his international debut in the 1977 European Championship. In the 1978 Amateur World Series, he was 1-1 with a 8.06 ERA, allowing 32 hits and 15 walks in 22 1/3 IP. He appeared in the 1980 Amateur World Series, 1982 Amateur World Series, 1983 Intercontinental Cup and 1986 Amateur World Series. In the 1988 Baseball World Cup, Volkerijk had a 0-2, 6.48 record in three games. He was with the Netherlands for the 1988 Olympics. Overall, he threw 71 games for the Dutch national team.
In his 23 years with ADO, he pitched 510 games. He set Hoofdklasse records for wins (150) and strikeouts (1,948). His win record was broken in 2012 by Rob Cordemans.
In 2008, Volkerijk began the year as ADO's pitching coach but assumed the head coach role in July with the team struggling. The team finished 5-37 and almost was relegated out of Hoofdklasse. Volkerijk was fired and replaced by Leo Voogd.
