[edit] Biographical Information

Bama Rowell split most of his time between second base and left field, later playing third base as well. In 1940 he hit .305, good for tenth in the league.

Rowell entered the Army in December 1941 and was discharged in October 1945, missing four full seasons.

After his major league career was over, Rowell played for the Mobile Bears of the Southern Association in 1950 and 1951. He also was a minor league manager in 1953 and 1954.

One source says that Rowell once hit a ball that broke the Bulova clock in Ebbetts Field and was the inspiration for a scene in the book and movie The Natural.
