A 2005 remake of the 1976 comedy film The Bad News Bears from Paramount Pictures. The film stars Billy Bob Thornton as a washed-up alcoholic minor-leaguer who was banished from the sport for attacking an umpire. He now coaches the Bears, a rather disappointing children's baseball team. The film follows the team's attempt to make it to the championship, and their eventual loss. The film also stars Greg Kinnear as an arrogant coach. The film is rated PG-13.

[edit] Mixed Reception

The film earned just over $35 million at the box office amid mixed reviews from the critics. Roger Ebert liked the movie as "it undermines the self-congratulatory myths we cultivate about sports in America. It writes the obituary of good sportsmanship." "[1]The film is described at rottentomatoes.com as follows: "This too-faithful remake aims low for laughs, turning off the easily offendable; despite another lovably irascible contribution by Thornton, it lacks the ensemble strength and originality of the 1976 version."[2]
