Augie Donatelli was a long-time National League umpire. He was on the league staff for 24 seasons. During this time he umpired two National League Championship Series, including the first one in 1969, five World Series, and four All-Star Games.
Donatelli was an infielder for three minor league teams in 1938. He played for the Pennington Gap Lee Bears, Paducah Indians (8 for 38, 2 doubles, 0 BB, 1 HBP, 2 SB) and the Beaver Falls Browns (hitting .266/~.281/.378 in 14 games).
Donatelli began his umpiring career in the Pioneer League in 1946. He began 1947 in the South Atlantic League but moved to the International League in August, where he would stay through 1949.
Augie Donatelli was the umpire on the first cover of Sports Illustrated in August 1954.
