The Athletes in Action Fire, based out of Fairbanks, AK, is the second Alaska Baseball League franchise to operate out of Growden Park, also home of the Alaska Goldpanners.
The Athletes in Action Fire are a Major League Baseball sanctioned team which is designed and dedicated to provide the nation's collegiate players the opportunity to compete at a higher level and prepare for entering the MLB Draft. The Athletes in Action operate in a similar manner to a Minor League team: playing nightly in stadiums before fans, using wood bats and minor league specification equipment, and experiencing road trips between games. Like all other summer collegiate players, they are unpaid in order to maintain their NCAA eligibility, and live with host families in the same manner as Single A and Independent League players.
The Athletes in Action Fire are affiliated with the Athletes in Action network, a Christian ministry which operates Summer Collegiate Baseball teams in five leagues. Athletes in Action is dedicated to nurture physical, spiritual and personal devolopment, discipline and growth within their players. AIA athletes are expected to live to a moral standard while affiliated with the team, and participate in team Bible studies. The Athletes in Action Fire, like other Athletes in Action teams employ a team chaplain to aide in developing the faiths of the players.
