Summit League
From BR Bullpen
The Summit League was created in 1982 as the Association of Mid-Continent Universities (or AMCU, pronounced Am-cue), which it was known as until 1989. The initial AMCU line-up included Cleveland State, Eastern Illinois, Illinois-Chicago, Northern Iowa, SW Missouri State, Valparaiso, Western Illinois and Wisconsin-Green Bay. From 1989 to 2007, the conference was known as the Mid-Continent Conference. On June 1, 2007, the MCC changed names and became the Summit League.
On November 3, 2005, Eastern Illinois University and South Dakota State University joined the conference as associate members, participating only in swimming and diving competition. On April 19, 2006, Chicago State University announced they would be leaving the conference to play as a Division I independent. The school officially departed on June 30, 2006. On May 17, 2006, Valparaiso University announced they would be leaving the conference for the Horizon League after the 2006-2007 academic year.
