The club finished 58-55 (1913) and 43-73 (1914). Among the players on the Mountaineers were future Major League players Champ Osteen and Walter Barbare. Both of these players got their start in nearby upstate SC. In fact, Osteen is considered one of the fathers of the Textile Leagues [1].
The first game at Oates Park in 1913 was an exhibition between the Mountaineers and the Philadelphia Athletics managed by Connie Mack. Shortly thereafter, Ty Cobb organized a group of players and also played against the Mountaineers [2].
