Asheville is located in western North Carolina, at the foot of the Great Smoky Mountains, 125 miles west of Charlotte, NC. It is home to the University of North Carolina at Asheville. The traditional name of the city's teams Tourists, refers to the large number of visitors who visit Biltmore Estate, a lavish mansion that has been a major tourist attraction since it was built in 1895.
