Art Bowland began his career as an OF/IF in the Brooklyn Dodgers chain and ended it as a catcher in southwestern leagues.
Bowland led the 1942 Georgia-Florida League with 26 stolen bases. He then missed 1943-1945 due to military service. Upon his return, Bowland made it as high as 32 games in the Southern Association in 1948 before spending the next 10 years with independent teams, mostly in the southwestern United States.
Bowland managed the Abilene Blue Sox for the last part of 1947 and the beginning of 1948. He also managed the San Angelo Colts in 1956 and the Plainview Ponies in 1957.
