[edit] Biographical Information

Arquimedez Pozo played three years in the major leagues from 1995-97. He was signed as an undrafted free agent in 1990 by the Seattle Mariners, and moved up the minors hitting pretty well. Highlights included hitting .322/~.405/.544 for the Bellingham Mariners in the Northwest League, .342/~.409/.526 for the Riverside Pilots in the California League, and .300/~.343/.436 for the Tacoma Rainiers in the PCL before he was brought up.

After his major league years, he played in 1998 with the Pawtucket Red Sox of the International League for 90 games, hitting .305/~.350/.494. Then he went to Japan and played for the Yokohama BayStars.

• He is presumably the only known major league baseball player named after the scientist Archimedes. Since his last name, Pozo, means "well" in Spanish (the kind that water comes out of), and since Archimedes invented the "screw" as a means of lifting water out of deep places, his name has intrigued people.
